Community Standards

We want the UX Mastery community to be a place for intelligent discussion.

Registration to our community is free but we insist that you abide by our rules and policies when using our platforms.

In summary:

• Don’t attack people and don’t respond to attacks—report them and move on
• Keep your posts on topic and constructive
• Take responsibility for the quality of the conversations you take part in
• Above all, respect others and their opinions
• UX Mastery moderators may remove comments or delete accounts where breaches occur.

1. Key Attributes We Expect

• Be considerate and proactive – Decisions you make will affect colleagues and other users, and we expect you to take those consequences into account when making decisions.
  
  Take responsibility for the quality of the conversations you participate in; only reply to things you consider worth your attention.
  
  Report posts you think violate these standards. Tell people when they post something you appreciate.

• Be respectful – Everyone can make a valuable contribution to UX Mastery, so please treat people with the respect you’d like to receive. Admit when you’re wrong.
  
  You’ll come across opinions you disagree with, but that doesn’t make them invalid. The important goal is not to avoid disagreements or differing views but to resolve them constructively. Disagreement is no excuse for poor behaviour and poor manners. A community where people feel uncomfortable or threatened is not a productive one.

• Be collaborative and constructive – UX Mastery and the field of user experience in general are about collaboration and working together. Ask questions. Aim to add a new idea rather than repeating what’s already been said. Move on if things get stuck.
  
  Your reasoning is as important as your opinion, so share your thinking, evidence and facts transparently in a way that allows outsiders to test, discuss and contribute to your efforts.
  
  Moderators will distinguish between constructive comments and smear campaigns, and will remove any deliberate attempts to misinform, distort facts or misrepresent the opinions of others.

• Be legal – Don’t post anything that may put UX Mastery in legal jeopardy — nothing defamatory, nothing in breach of copyright.
  
  Ensure your post content does not contain viruses, worms, malware, Trojan horses or other harmful or destructive content

• When you are unsure, ask for help – Nobody knows everything, and nobody is expected to be perfect. Asking questions avoids many problems down the road, and so questions are thoroughly encouraged. Those who are asked should be responsive and helpful. However, take care to use the right forum; off-topic questions detract from productive discussion.
  
• Be on-topic — Keep comments and replies relevant to the initiating post. Moderators might delete off-topc comments to keep threads on track.

2. Keep Your Account Secure

If you create an account with us, you are responsible for maintaining the security of your account and you are fully responsible for all activities that occur under your account. You must immediately notify UX Mastery of any unauthorized use of your account or any other breaches of security. UX Mastery will not be liable for any acts or omissions by you, including any damages of any kind incurred as a result of such acts or omissions.

3. Take Responsibility for What You Share

If you post material, post links, or otherwise make (or allow any third party to make) material available by means of our community, you are entirely responsible for the content of, and any harm resulting from, those posts.

By posting, you represent and warrant that:

• the downloading, copying and use of the post content will not infringe the proprietary rights, including but not limited to the copyright, patent, trademark or trade secret rights, of any third party;
• if your employer has rights to intellectual property you create, you have either (i) received permission from your employer to post, or (ii) secured from your employer a waiver as to all rights to the post content;
• you have fully complied with any third-party licenses relating to the post content, and have done all things necessary to successfully pass through to end users any required terms;
• your post content does not contain or install any viruses, worms, malware, Trojan horses or other harmful or destructive content;
• your post is not spam, is not machine- or randomly-generated, and does not contain unethical or unwanted commercial content designed to drive traffic to third party sites or boost the search engine rankings of third party sites, or to further unlawful acts (such as phishing) or mislead recipients as to the source of the material (such as spoofing);
• your post is not pornographic, does not contain threats or incite violence, and does not violate the privacy or publicity rights of any third party;
• your post is not insulting or purposefully inflammatory;
• your content is not named in a manner that misleads your readers into thinking that you are another person or company;
• you do not post about meaningless topics, one word or nonsense posts (sometimes referred to as ‘fluff’ posts), or the equivalent;
• you will not post multiple of repeated posts in order to increase your post count;
• you will not advertise, spam or troll, either using the forum, email, visitor messages or private messages

4. Your Responsibilities as a Forum Visitor

UX Mastery has not reviewed, and cannot review, all of the material, including computer software, posted to our community, and cannot therefore be responsible for that material’s content, use or effects. By operating the community, UX Mastery does not represent or imply that it endorses the material posted, or that it believes such material to be accurate, useful or non-harmful. You are responsible for taking precautions as necessary to protect yourself and your computer systems from viruses, worms, Trojan horses, and other harmful or destructive content. The community may contain content that is offensive, indecent, or otherwise objectionable, as well as content containing technical inaccuracies, typographical mistakes, and other errors.

The community may also contain material that violates the privacy or publicity rights, or infringes the intellectual property and other proprietary rights, of third parties, or the downloading, copying or use of which is subject to additional terms and conditions, stated or unstated. UX Mastery disclaims any responsibility for any harm resulting from the use by visitors of the community, or from any downloading by those visitors of content there posted.

5. Moderation and Termination

We reserve the right to remove comments that breach these standards and lock or delete accounts of commenters who breach them repeatedly. We take a zero-tolerance approach to discrimination.

Replies to comments that have been deleted may themselves be deleted, either to remove the thread or because they don’t make sense out of context. Comments may be closed if these standards aren’t met.

As per our policy on removing content, we will only remove comments that don’t violate these standards in exceptional circumstances.

We won’t discuss moderation on the site. If you need to discuss anything, contact our Community Manager: community@uxmastery.com.

Moderation disputes are handled by our Community Manager and escalated to our Managing Editor.

UX Mastery may terminate your access to the forums at any time, with or without cause, with or without notice, effective immediately. If you wish to terminate this Agreement or your UX Mastery account, you may simply discontinue using the forums. All provisions of this Agreement which by their nature should survive termination shall survive termination, including, without limitation, ownership provisions, warranty disclaimers, indemnity and limitations of liability.
